Looking Back on Fall 2015!
For the Choral Program at Mira Mesa High School, our 2015-2016 school year is off to a phenomenal start!
In our non-auditioned ensemble, Concert Choir, is once again 60+ singers over two class periods. In the fall, they sang mostly SAB music, but they are preparing three SATB pieces for festival this spring! Ms. Winslow is our student teacher and she has taken over the leadership of Concert Choir.
We are delighted that our Chorale class has made a reappearance! Last year, the students who auditioned for Chorale were combined with the new singers of Concert Choir due to scheduling issues. But our Chorale students, who sing SA and SSA music, have taken a year of choir and already read music, know vocal technique, and truly want to work at a high musical level, so it's best that they are in their own ensemble.
Chorale has so far worked on SA and SSA pieces in German, Latin, Hebrew, and English.
In October, Madrigals received a clinic from Dr. Tim Sharp (Executive Director of the American Choral Directors Association) at the PLNU fall invitational festival and in late November, did our annual live performance on KUSI's "Good Morning, San Diego." We combined with the MMHS Symphony Orchestra and some of our Madrigals alumni for a performance of Vivaldi's "Credo," a four-movement Baroque work, in December. We did our annual Madrigals Idol in January, and reprised several of those pieces for Choir Day in the Quad, a recruitment event that is sure to become another annual event.
We look forward to many events in April, including the CMEA-SBS Festival that we host, Spring Choir Night at the Padres, a performance at our local Mira Mesa Senior Center, a fundraising concert at Pacific Beach United Methodist Church, and a Music in the Parks festival in Santa Ana for Madrigals. April is also the month of auditions and placements for next year!
Once festival season has come to an end, we will begin work on our annual Pops Concert. Last year, our theme was "Disney" (see picture below!) and this year we'll be featuring the music of the Roaring '20s, the Jazz Age.
